Dr. Valencia is committed to treating his patients like family. “I am grateful for having trained in academic centers, but my favorite part of caring for people with cancer is spending extra time getting to know them. I believe providing great care requires practicing the art of listening, communicating honestly, and providing hope.” To achieve this, Dr. Valencia pays extra attention to the details. He emphasizes teaching patients and their families about their disease and treatment options. He uses new advances in screening, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, combination chemotherapy and genetic profiling to provide his patients with the latest advances in care.

Dr. Valencia has published, participated in and presented research at national conferences but measures his personal achievements in a different way. “Cancer is not an easy disease to treat because it’s not all about knowing what drug to prescribe or what test to order. It’s about treating people with respect and empathy.” During his years of training he has been recognized for his leadership, teaching, and compassionate bedside manner and served as chief resident of his residency program at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Dr. Valencia is Board Certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine.

When out of the office, Dr. Valencia enjoys soccer, running along the Erie Canal, traveling to new places, volunteering locally and spending time with his wife, children, friends and family.
